Interior Spaces” at Blue Nest

The 15 paintings that were created for the Interior Spaces series, depict blended and blurred stripes and color fields originating from first-hand observations.  Each piece is embedded with semi-hidden, organic shapes representing partially lost or distorted memories.  These ‘memories’ aid in creating an unexpected depth and atmosphere in an attempt to break through the surface plane and begin to separate these paintings from traditional minimalist concepts.

Outside of private showings and collections, the Interior Spaces paintings have not been on display since their original hanging at Space Gallery in 2008-2009.

Artist Statement

Poor vision has shaped my artistic sensibility, blurring the line between perception and abstraction.

In this alternate reality, unexpected color interactions emerge as edges dissolve. Light and color take precedence over perspective, depth, and recognizable objects, revealing a new flattened awareness.

An appreciation for lost and overlooked imagery is a recurring theme in my work. My ‘sketchbook’ consists of intentionally out-of-focus photos and fleeting background or transition moments found in photographs and popular media.

These sources of inspiration, often pared with a fascination of faded memories and consciousness, form the backdrop for my artistic exploration.
